"Technology Alone Can't Make Money… Manufacturing AI Must Become a Standardized Product"

"No matter how brilliant AI technology is, if it isn't chosen by the market, it becomes a useless product. Manufacturing AI must be crafted into a product that customers can genuinely use."

Min-seok Seong, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ONEPREDICT, met with this newspaper on the 27th of last month at the company's headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, emphasizing that industrial AI companies must go beyond tech development to secure product market fit. He explained that companies must move away from the traditional System Integration (SI) approach—which builds custom systems from scratch for every factory—and instead repeatedly apply a common platform across various industries and production lines.

Prior to joining ONEPREDICT, COO Seong led digital twin and equipment optimization initiatives at Doosan Enerbility, before taking charge of vehicle asset operation platform businesses at SoCar and 42dot. "Although vehicles and manufacturing equipment differ in form, their underlying structures are remarkably similar in that both manage assets efficiently based on data," Seong remarked. "I saw a business opportunity to apply the expertise I accumulated in mobility directly to manufacturing AI." He currently oversees product, business strategy, and overall company operations.

When he joined ONEPREDICT in 2024, the first mission assigned to him by CEO Byung-dong Yoon was to 'create a product that actually generates revenue.' Although the company had secured industrial AI and equipment diagnostic technologies, a lack of product market fit prevented those capabilities from converting into orders and revenue. Seong revamped the existing technology and officially launched the industrial asset operation platform 'pdx' in 2025. According to ONEPREDICT, revenue jumped from approximately 800 million KRW in 2024 to roughly 2.8 billion KRW last year, while orders surged from about 700 million KRW to 5.8 billion KRW.

The core business direction advocated by ONEPREDICT is the 'AI Native Factory.' While manufacturing sites have reached the automation stage repeating pre programmed commands—anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and response decisions still rely heavily on the intuition of veteran technicians. An AI Native Factory is an operational framework where AI integrally analyzes production, equipment, and quality data to recognize problems, infer causes, and recommend actionable solutions.

Seong diagnosed: "A factory running automatically is fundamentally different from a factory making autonomous decisions. Today's factories are automated, but problem resolution, corrective actions, and outcome evaluations remain human centric. Manufacturing AX is still in its infancy."

Supporting this vision are the manufacturing data platform 'cyclone' and the industrial asset operation platform 'pdx'. As cyclone connects factory data so that AI can process it, pdx operates domain specific AI across production, quality, and maintenance. Field technicians can verify diagnostic results and response plans using natural language through the AI assistant 'oneAGENT'.

The company has placed its business focus squarely on the private enterprise sector (B2B). Seong explained, "Moving away from simple SI or customized build projects, our strategy resembles Palantir keeping a standardized product at the core while tailoring it to enterprise requirements. We are focusing on the private market, which holds much greater potential." Driven by the expansion of its product business, ONEPREDICT is also pursuing a tech special listing on the KOSDAQ in 2027.

While maintaining a standardized product core, ONEPREDICT plans to expand its application into industries such as semiconductors, batteries, steel, and chemicals by adding features tailored to industry specific processes and data environments. COO Seong concluded, "Our goal is to become the go to partner that Korean manufacturers look for first in their AX journey. By expanding product competitiveness and customer success stories, we will solidify our position as the defining company of the AI Native Factory era."
