Account Overview

This account is a prominent petrochemical industry company in Korea with large-scale chemical plants, specializing in the production of petrochemical products, secondary batteries, optical materials, electronic materials, and pharmaceuticals. 


Challenge

The client had been managing transformers through existing methods such as insulating oil gas analysis and detailed inspections. However, they had multiple concerns regarding maintenance, including the fluctuating gas level at specific points in time. As a result, they recognized the need for a more accurate predictive diagnosis method that would surpass the existing IEEE or IEC standards while considering the unique work environment.


Project

Upon the introduction of an insulating oil measurement partner, the client expressed great interest in implementing guardione® substation. Over several years of using the product, a sudden occurrence of C2H2 (acetylene) was detected in a specific transformer. Although the condition did not meet the threshold for requiring additional measures according to IEEE standards, a detailed verification of the transformer was conducted during the factory overhaul period.



1. Guardione® solution detected a stage of interest, distinct from IEEE standards, based on the behavior of hydrocarbons observed on December 17, 2021. Subsequently, the continuous caution stage was diagnosed due to the rapid increase in gas prices starting from April 20, 2022. 


2. Furthermore, on June 8, 2022, the occurrence of C2H2 led to a significant decline in the soundness index, and it was identified as the cause of an arcing phenomenon near the tap changer. The diagnosis was confirmed to be accurate during the overhaul period verification.




Result

Thanks to the accurate diagnosis provided by guardione® solution during the overhaul period, a potentially major accident was prevented. This outcome reinforced the value and effectiveness of guardione® in ensuring the safety of the transformers. 


Consequently, the client successfully renewed the contract, extending the coverage to include all transformers in the plant.
