Oil & Gas

By accurately predicting the timing and cause of failures, maintenance tasks can be performed at the right time.

[Maintenance Team Engineer]
"By predicting potential insulating oil failures, we were able to replace the oil at the optimal time, which has greatly helped us manage transformers more safely and efficiently."

01 Client

The client is a leading domestic oil refining company that now operates diversified business sectors, including not only refining but also lubricants and petrochemicals.

02 Background

Among the power facilities of a refinery, transformers are the most critical equipment responsible for power supply. The client had experienced unexpected transformer failures in the past, which highlighted the limitations of their existing maintenance approach, and they were uncertain about how to improve their management strategy going forward.

03 Issue

As part of a Digital Transformation project, the client considered implementing an automatic predictive diagnostic solution for key equipment. onepredict was evaluated as a candidate solution specifically for transformer equipment. Before the actual implementation, the core functions—diagnosis and prediction accuracy—were verified multiple times.

1. Analyzed historical gas analysis data (DGA) without disclosing whether the transformers were faulty or normal, to determine fault vs. normal conditions

2. For faulty transformers, analyzed only pre-failure gas analysis data to accurately predict the timing of unexpected failures

3. Verified solution performance by comparing the diagnosed failure causes and maintenance suggestions with actual field cases

04 Result

The guardione® solution successfully completed verification.

1. Among various datasets, the guardione® solution accurately identified normal transformer equipment and accurately predicted the failure timing of transformers that had experienced unexpected failures in the past.

2. After the official adoption of the solution, it diagnosed a fault in a specific transformer and recommended replacing the insulating oil. A few weeks later, a noticeable fault actually occurred in the transformer, prompting an urgent oil replacement. This further validated the reliability of not just the diagnostics, but the predictive capabilities as well.

3. Following the verification of not only predictive diagnostics but also the maintenance suggestion feature, a license contract was signed for the following year, and the solution continues to be used regularly.
