01 Client

The client is a global steel company that operates large-scale steelworks, producing tens of millions of tons of crude steel annually. 






02 Background

The client was operating steam turbines to supply power during the steel manufacturing process and had detected an increase in turbine vibration, prompting an investigation into the cause. 

In particular, scratch marks were found on the journal bearing babbitt during an overhaul, so the client wanted to diagnose and address potential risk factors in advance before a failure occurred


03 Issue

Continued friction on the journal bearing can potentially lead to serious accidents, so early inspection was conducted using guardione® turbo. 

1. Training on vibration data from the point in time when friction occurred  


2. Domain-based analysis of operating parameters and vibration data to estimate the friction location  


3. Scoring of potential risk levels and suggesting actionable measures for the operator  


04 Result

As a result of the client’s preventive measures and equipment disassembly inspection, the findings matched those detected by the guardione® solution—stator winding turn-to-turn short and rotor bar crack.By detecting the anomalies in advance, the client was able to prevent a potential fire caused by failure, ensuring on-site safety and avoiding significant losses.
