01 Client

The client is a leading domestic oil refining company engaged in refining, lubricants, and petrochemical businesses, supplying energy reliably to both domestic and global markets. 





02 Background

The client faced challenges in identifying the root cause of abnormal vibration in a centrifugal compressor within their petrochemical complex. In particular, they struggled with sub-synchronous vibration caused by fluid instability in the labyrinth seal of the compressor. This was suspected to be due to changes in the composition of process gas during operation, and it was a phenomenon not previously observed. 

03 Issue

Before officially adopting the solution, the client wanted to verify its diagnostic accuracy, so they analyzed vibration and operational factor data using guardione® turbo. 

1. Vibration characteristics (FFT, Orbit, Polar, etc.) and operational data (bearing temperature, pressure, etc.) were analyzed and learned. 

2. The severity of abnormal vibration was assessed through anomaly scoring. 

3. A report was provided that included data from just before the issue occurred, data from a previous normal period, diagnostic results, and recommended actions to be taken on-site. 

04 Result

guardione® turbo generated diagnostic results by analyzing equipment vibration data along with the equipment’s specifications. The final diagnosis identified a gas whirl phenomenon occurring in the labyrinth seal inside the equipment. 

guardione® turbo was the only product that accurately diagnosed this phenomenon, leading to a solution supply contract for the client’s entire process.
